TalkSPORT: Newcastle eyeing Geordie defender after 14-assist season in the Championship

According to talkSPORT, Newcastle United are showing interest in Ipswich Town defender Leif Davis following his impressive season in the Championship.

TalkSPORT reporter Alex Crook claims that Newcastle and West Ham are both ‘keeping tabs’ on his form after starring in Ipswich’s unexpected push towards promotion this season.

The 24-year-old was born in Newcastle and started his youth career with Wallsend Boys Club before moving to Morecambe and Leeds; who sold him to Ipswich for £1.2m three years ago.

Davis stands 6ft tall and has racked up an impressive 14 assists in 31 Championship appearances this season, matching his total for the 2022/23 campaign in League One.

Whether Davis is targeted or not, it’ll be interesting to see what we do at left-back this summer. Dan Burn has had a tough season and has often been targeted down that side, Matt Targett is likely to depart after slipping down the pecking order and Chelsea loanee Lewis Hall – who will sign permanently at the end of the season – has barely been used by Howe, who doesn’t seem to trust the 19-year-old at present.

Here’s a few clip of the Geordie full-back in action this season:
